How to Backup Android Messages and Restore to Your New Phone

Text Messaging has become one of the most popularly used methods of communication in the world, and for good reason! Using text messages is quick and easy, but most importantly it means that we can keep a record of every conversation we have. Furthermore, with the addition of media such as emojis, GIFs and camera pictures to a text, they can be rich in information that you don’t want to lose! For these reasons, it is important for a lot of people to back up their phone’s messages or transfer them to their new device – this is where tools like Droid Transfer really shine.

Droid Transfer

Droid Transfer is the only computer software you need to transfer data between your Android phone and your Windows PC or Mac. You can manage your music with or without iTunes, transfer your photos, backup messages and more! The tool is developed by Wide Angle Software, the team behind other popular media management software like TouchCopy.

Let’s take a look at how it works…

How to backup messages from Android to computer

  1. Download and install Droid Transfer on your Windows PC or laptop.
  2. Get the Transfer Companion app on your Android phone.
  3. Using Wi-Fi or USB, connect your phone to your computer.
  4. Click the ‘Messages’ tab in Droid Transfer on your PC.
  5. Hit ‘Backup & Restore’, then ‘Backup’.

Finally, choose the conversations to backup, or back them all up by using the default option. Simply choose a location on your computer to save the backup file to and save it!

Droid Transfer will back up your text conversations as well as any media like emojis and images which may be attached.

Note that you won’t be able to open and view the contents of this backup file, this is for backup and restore purposes only. If you wish to transfer messages in readable formats like PDF, HTML or TXT, or even to print your messages off, Droid Transfer can help you with that as well.
