The beginning of the year 2020 comes with a little bit prolonged holiday season, especially for smartphone fans and tech freaks. Namely, at this year’s “Unpacked 2020” event, held in the city of San Francisco, one of the leading companies in the production of smartphones, Samsung, has revealed the new Galaxy family!
The participants of the event, as well as billions of people around the globe who were watching the live stream or decided to play free slots, had the opportunity to get familiar with three new Galaxy family members: Samsung Galaxy S20, Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra! Next to these three superb smartphones, the company has also unveiled a foldable mobile phone labelled as Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, as well as their new earphone concept named Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus.
Samsung in a Nutshell
Samsung (in English „three stars“) is a multinational conglomerate located in Seoul, South Korea, which quickly became known as the “Samsung City”. It was originally founded back in 1938 as a trading company, only to become one of the largest corporations, comprising numerous affiliate companies under the Samsung brand.
These affiliates include companies such as Samsung Electronics (according to the revenues from 2017, it was the leading IT company, chipmaker, and consumer electronics producer), Samsung Heavy Industries (in the top five shipbuilding companies), Samsung C&T and Samsung Engineering (in the top 30 construction companies), Samsung Life Insurance (in the top 20 insurance companies), etc.
The Galaxy smartphone family is probably one of the things Samsung is mostly recognized for. It started as a true blast in the IT world, with the initial model that introduced one of the first customized Android platforms, and since then it managed to preserve the position in the top three high-quality smartphones you can find on the market.
Galaxy S20
Samsung Galaxy S20 is the cheapest version of three and is probably going to represent the first 5G smartphone to the majority of people. Compared to its predecessor, it introduces significant changes and improvements in multiple areas, including battery, screen, and, of course, camera.
Samsung Galaxy S20 specifications:
- Dimensions & Weight:7mm x 69.1mm x 7.9mm, 163g
- Material: glass front and back (Gorilla Glass 6), aluminum frame
- Screen: Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 6.2 inches, 1440×3200 pixels, 563 PPI with 20:9 ratio
- Operating System: Android 10, One UI 2
- Memory: 128GB + micro SDXC, 12GB RAM
- Camera: Rear: 12MP wide with Dual Pixel PDAF, 64MP telephoto with 3x hybrid optical zoom and 30x super-resolution Space Zoom, 12MP ultra-wide with Super Steady video; front: 10MP wide with Dual Pixel PDAF
- Battery: 4000 mAh with fast and wireless charging
As for the camera, Samsung has managed to increase the pixel size from 1.4 microns (Galaxy S10) to 1.8 microns, with significantly larger sensors. Telephoto lens has experienced a true transformation as well, increasing the number of Megapixels from 12MP (Galaxy S10) to astonishing 64MP!
An amazing screen comes with the maximum WQHD+ resolution of 3200×1440 pixels. However, the customers are provided with the chance to select the Full HD+ resolution with 2220×1080 pixels, which is more battery-friendly, and comes with an amazing refresh rate of 120Hz, compared to only 60Hz rate for the WQHD+ resolution!
Due to extended battery capacity of 4000 mAh, unfortunately, the headphone jack had to be left out, which is the first time Samsung has decided to remove it from the Galaxy S series. However, the combination of great battery life and a top-notch display will provide an amazing surfing and gaming experience, so you can enjoy your favourite online slots, casino or arcade games in a proper manner! And with a powerful chipset, you won’t have to worry about any lags!
Galaxy S20+
Samsung Galaxy S20+ represents the “middle child” of the new Galaxy family. It introduces top-notch screen features, larger camera sensors, cutting edge quadruple camera, and significantly increased battery performance, compared to the previous version, Galaxy s10+.
Samsung Galaxy S20+ specifications:
- Dimensions & Weight:9mm x 73.7mm x 7.8mm, 188g
- Material: glass front and back (Gorilla Glass 6), aluminum frame
- Screen: Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 6.7 inches, 1440×3200 pixels, 525 PPI with 20:9 ratio
- Operating System: Android 10, One UI 2
- Memory: 128GB or 256GB or 512GB + micro SDXC, 12GB RAM
- Camera: Rear: 12MP wide with Dual Pixel PDAF, 64MP telephoto with 3x hybrid optical zoom and 30x super-resolution Space Zoom, 12MP ultra-wide with Super Steady video, 0.3MP ToF 3D depth camera; front: 10MP wide with Dual Pixel PDAF
- Battery: 4500 mAh with fast and wireless charging
When it comes to the camera, the story is pretty much the same as for S20. Compared to the predecessor (S10+), this version introduces larger pixel and sensor size, as well as an increase in MP, especially distinctive in the telephoto lens. A 0.3 ToF lens will provide better differentiation between background objects and subjects which further provides a bokeh blur effect of a higher quality.
The screen comes with two variations. You can either go for maximum WQHD+ resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate, or downgrade the resolution to Full HD+, but with superb refresh rate of 120Hz!
Galaxy S20 Ultra
This model represents the “big brother” in the Galaxy S20 family. And by big, they mean really big, with a 6.9-inch display, 108MP camera, and an outstanding 100x optical zoom!
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra specifications:
- Dimensions & Weight:9mm x 76mm x 8.8mm, 222g
- Material: glass front and back (Gorilla Glass 6), aluminum frame
- Screen: Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 6.9 inches, 1440×3200 pixels, 511 PPI with 20:9 ratio
- Operating System: Android 10, One UI 2
- Memory: 128GB or 256GB or 512GB + micro SDXC, 12GB RAM
- Camera: rear: 108MP wide with Dual Pixel PDAF, 48MP periscope telephoto with 10x hybrid optical zoom and 100x super-resolution Space Zoom, 12MP ultra-wide with Super Steady video, 0.3MP ToF 3D depth camera; front: 40MP wide with Dual Pixel PDAF
- Battery: 4500 mAh with fast and wireless charging
Although it may seem odd that S20 Ultra telephoto camera comes with less MP compared to other two Galaxy S20 family members, don’t let that fool you. This camera, as well as the main 108MP lens, use significantly bigger sensors, which are able to absorb much more light, therefore, giving more sharpness and detail, especially when taking pictures at night or low light environments.
When it comes to other specs, Galaxy S20 Ultra can compete with the majority of high-quality laptops you can find on the market, with 512GB storage and 16GB RAM memory, a powerful 7nm chipset, and a large battery capacity of 5000 mAh! Such specifications will allow you to enjoy a wide range of games, from simple ones, such as online slots or casino table games, to complex ones with top-notch graphics, without having to downgrade the resolution! And a massive Dynamic AMOLED screen will give you the best mobile gaming experience you can currently find!
